Master Recyclers are citizen volunteers who serve as solid waste ambassadors in Jackson County, working within their communities to reduce waste generation, to cultivate public awareness and to support projects of Jackson County Recycling Partnership, Jackson County SMARTWorks.

Each Spring, a 11-week training course teaches 35-40 Jackson County residents, business and government representatives on topics of recycling, waste prevention, composting, and the local solid waste infrastructure. The course includes an extensive training manual, discussion based classes, and presentations from local and regional experts. Field trips include visits to Dry Creek landfill, composting facilities, a waste-to-energy plant and the Medford wastewater treatment plant.

2012 Master Recycler Training Course Description

Weekly classes take place on Wednesday evenings, March 7– May 23, 5:30–8:30 p.m. in the Mace Building located at the Jackson County Expo Fairgrounds, 1 Peninger Road, Central Point, right off of I-5 . Field trips take place on 3 differnt Saturdays. There will be no class the week of Spring Break, March 20.

The cost is $85 for residential participants and $185 for commercial/government participants.

There will be an orientation on Wednesday, February 15, from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. in the Mace Building. Applications must be received by February 3, 2012.
