Big Trucks, Big Lessons: Touch-A-Truck Returns for Local Kids

Rogue Disposal & Recycling continued its hands-on approach to community education this year, bringing its popular Touch-a-Truck program back to local children—this time with a new face leading the lesson.

Stepping into the role of “teacher” was Luke Pene, a Rogue Disposal driver, who traded his regular route for time in the Cubhouse Preschool parking lot to help young learners understand truck safety in a fun and engaging way.

Touch-a-Truck is a program designed to bring children and big trucks together in a safe, approachable setting—helping kids learn how to stay safe around large vehicles.

During the visit, Pene gave the kids an up-close look at one of Rogue’s collection trucks while explaining how it operates and why safety is so important when trucks are out on their routes. From blind spots to keeping a safe distance, his real-world experience helped turn important safety lessons into something easy for little ones to understand.

Children had the chance to see the truck up close, ask questions, and interact with the equipment—making the experience both educational and exciting. Events like these create hands-on learning opportunities, helping kids better understand the role these vehicles play in their community while reinforcing safe habits.

Rogue team members were also on hand to support the visit and ensure a safe, structured environment as the children explored and learned more about the work happening behind the scenes.

The program reflects Rogue Disposal & Recycling’s continued commitment to community engagement and education. By focusing on safety and creating meaningful, face-to-face interactions, the company helps build awareness at an early age while strengthening its connection to the communities it serves.

For the kids, Pene’s visit was more than just a fun break in their day—it was a chance to learn from a real-world professional and see firsthand how important these everyday community services really are.
