Expanded Recycling Opportunities at the Rogue Transfer Station Recycle Depot
What’s New (and Why It Matters)
Thanks to better access to recycling opportunities across the state of Oregon, we're able to collect more types of recyclable items at the depot.
These include:
- Plastic bags and film (like grocery bags and plastic packaging wrap)
- Plastic lids
- Aluminum foil and foil trays
- Shredded paper (in a paper bag, rolled & stapled shut)
- Rigid plastic package handles (such as 6-pack handles)
- Plastic Buckets and Pails
All materials should be clean, dry, and sorted by type where possible into the appropriate container. For more information on RecycleOn Centers, visit https://recycleon.org/oregon/r...[LL1]
Why These New Items Belong Here
Not all recyclables are created equally. Some materials are perfectly recyclable but aren’t well-suited for curbside carts because they should not be mixed with other recyclables – and must be collected on their own.
- Plastic lids, shredded paper, and aluminum foil are too small or lightweight to survive the sorting process when mixed with other materials
- Plastic bags and film tangle in the sorting machinery, and must be handled separately from other recyclables.
By bringing these items to the depot, you help protect the recycling stream and ensure more materials get properly recycled and not landfilled.
What You’ll See at the Depot
- Clearer signage for each material type
- New collection bins for the new list of “hard-to-recycle” items
- A smoother layout that makes drop-offs quicker and easier
We’ve made these changes to support an improved recycling system without adding confusion. It’s all part of our ongoing work to reduce contamination, recover more materials, and keep our local system strong.
