User Guide

Proper Collection and Disposal

Because medical waste is a biohazard, it’s important to follow strict collection guidelines.

  1. Sharps must be stored and collected in leak-proof, rigid, puncture-resistant red plastic containers and have the word “biohazard” or the international symbol for biohazard clearly visible.
  2. Do not overfill the container. Everything must fit safely inside with nothing sticking out.
  3. Approved biohazard containers are available as part of our full-service medical waste program. Or you can provide your own biohazard container, as long as it meets all of the above requirements.

Disposal Information

Making sure medical waste is properly disposed of it critical for the safety of anyone who may come in contact with the biohazard box.

  1. When your sharps container is full, prepare it for disposal by securely closing the opening on top, then taping it shut.
  2. Do NOT place the filled container in your trash can or beside the trash can. Keep it in a safe place at your residence until it’s ready for disposal.
