Key Position Responsibilities and Accountability
Routine and preventive maintenance on company-owned equipment — including diesel, gas and CNG engines/trucks
- Skills and ability at diagnosing mechanical, electrical and hydraulic problems mechanical issues
- Complete scheduled maintenance and troubleshooting, including engine tune-ups, DCA, magna flux, wheel packing, oil changes and lubrication
- Maintain records of routine maintenance performed, defects and trouble spots identified and repairs completed
- Requested repairs on company-owned equipment — including diesel and CNG trucks
- Ability to repair and maintain automated residential, front load, and roll-off trucks
- Knowledge and ability to safely, efficiently and effectively perform repairs to power, mechanical, electrical and hydraulic systems for both vehicles and equipment
- Expertise includes (but is not limited to) repairing chassis, drivelines, body components, hydraulic systems brake systems, electrical systems, suspension systems, wheels and tires
- Road calls when drivers request roadside service
- Make emergency road calls to repair trucks, making repairs as feasible at breakdown site
- Call for towing assistance if on-site repairs are not feasible
- Deliver and/or pickup truck in need of repairs
- Complete all required paperwork related to the road service
- Reads and interprets Vehicle Condition Reports (VCRs) and/or repair orders
- Communicate with supervisors and/or drivers for clarification of problems and to discuss preventive techniques to minimize future repairs
- Complete paperwork associated with repairing vehicles, including documenting parts usage and accounting for time spent
Essential functions
- Knowledge and practical mechanical skills to work with all aspects of the equipment used in the operations of Rogue Disposal & Recycling, Rogue Waste Systems, and Rogue Materials and Recovery — including diesel and gas engines, transmissions, rear ends, suspensions, hydraulic systems and pumps, and electrical systems
- Physical mobility to routinely move under trucks, bend, lift, climb, squat, kneel and get into tight working areas
- Knowledge and skill in fabrication and the safe, efficient and effective use of tools used in fabrication — including both mig and arc welding, cutting torches, plasma arcs, hydraulic jacks, overhead hoists, hydraulic presses, porta-power and pressure washers
- Skills and expertise in the safe, efficient and effective use of both air-powered and electric-powered hand tools — including grinders, sanders, cut-off saws, drills, wrenches and impact guns
- Experience operating fork-lift equipment
- Familiarity and basic skills in the use of hand-held computer testing equipment
- Ability to routinely lift and move heavy objects
Position Requirements
- High school diploma or GED certification
- Minimum of two years heavy truck diesel, CNG repair and maintenance
- Must have Oregon CDL Class A or B driver’s license with clean driving record
- Must be able to read and understand manuals and work instructions, respond to written and oral instructions, and to provide written documentation and to exchange information
- Must have basic math skills to add, subtract, multiply and divide whole numbers
- Knowledge of electrical, power, transmission, brake and other gas, diesel and CNG automotive systems
- Customer service attitude that’s professional, courteous and cooperative with all co-workers
- Ability to follow safety rules and procedures — showing an appreciation for safety and setting an example for safe work behavior
- Ability to work independently of direct supervision and to respond with flexibility to potentially changing service demands
- Attention to detail to ensure accuracy of records and reports
- Verbal and interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with predominantly English speaking equipment operators in order to address frustrations and potential conflicts effectively
- Class B Commercial Driver’s License with the ability to obtain a Class A CDL
Preferred Experience
- Mechanical, electrical, brake or trade school certificate
- Welding and/or fabrication skills and/or experience
- Certificate in electronic diagnostics
- Proficient with Microsoft Office, as well as OEM software for Allison, Cat, Cummins and Mack
- Municipal solid waste industry experience
Conditions of Employment
Candidates for this position must meet the above requirements and successfully pass a post offer Department of Transportation (DOT) drug screen, physical and physical capacities evaluation.

- Work Schedule: Monday-Thursday 2:00pm-10:30pm; Friday 12:00pm-8:30pm
- Probationary Period: 720 hours worked
